zines & chap books
A zine (last four letters are from magazine) is usually a self-published, small circulation “book.” They are usually published by a group or an individual with a few pages about a favorite subject. Many are handcopied, photocopied and stapled, while others are professionally printed.
Chap books are similar to zines, and originated in Medieval Europe. They are a bit longer (up to 40 pages), and often feature poetry or art.
